A couple of months ago I saw a hexagon blanket on Attic24‘s blog and fell in love with the idea of making one for my bed.  It was so pretty, and I just knew it would be perfect.  I’ve been a crocheter for a long time, but I’ve never joined motifs together by crocheting in this manner.  Lucy has a fantastic tutorial of how she assembles her motif’s, based on a great tutorial by Moonstitches (I love her blog–so many cool ideas!).

Here is a photo I took of my “hex in the works”.  The yarn I’m using is Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn, which is acrylic.  It is the softest acrylic yarn I’ve ever used, and with three cats I wanted something that would last.  I know from making other afghans that acrylic will stand up well to my family lol.  The colors are Old Leaf, Sun Gold, and Terra Cotta.  These colors are so me, especially the green.

This has been fun to crochet.  I just make sure I weave the ends as I go. I really hate going back to do that, and it’s so much better if you do it as you go (at least for me anyway).  I hoped to have it finished by cooler weather but somehow just didn’t make it. So know I am working on it a bit at a time in between other projects, namely Christmas gifts.

If you would like to see some other gorgeous hexagon love ideas, go to the Flickr Hexagon Love group and see some amazing projects, or if you have a Ravelry account, go to patterns and do a search for hexagons. You will be amazed at the variety of projects that can be done.  WOW!!

Happy Crafting.

In 2009 I finished a few things.  I had been working on designing some things when we had to pack up and move, but those have gotten put on hold until next year.  I will be submitting some of them for consideration to a yahoo.com group I belong to that does holiday gifts every year. It’s called Holiday Mystery Gifts and I believe this is their third year.  We don’t have many crochet items right now, mostly knit, so I thought I would see if they would be interested in any of mine.  Anyway, here are some things I finished this year.

Zero the Ghostly Dog:  My daughter Kaitlin has a friend who absolutely loves the movie Nightmare Before Christmas and Zero.  I found many patterns on Ravelry, crochet and knit, but decided to go with the pattern on Lizville’s site.  It was a very quick crochet and he turned out really cute. He was for Nicole’s birthday but I haven’t mailed it to her yet.  I also saw a pattern for Jack Skellington as well. I don’t know if I want to make anything like this for a while, especially ~with my Christmas “To Make” list.

I also finished a doily for an exchange. I haven’t worked in thread for awhile so it was an adjustment.  I used the pattern Silver Surf from this site and you can see examples of it on Ravelry if you are a member (it’s free–and totally awesome if you are a fiber artist).

One final item for this post and I’ll save the rest for another post.  I made a Granny Scarf using the pattern from Suzie’s Stuff.  She has many awesome free patterns and a Yahoo group, too.  I didn’t change colors so I had to figure out how to continue around since I didn’t fasten off, but it was really easy to do.

Have a good weekend and happy crafting.  TGIF!!!!

I’ve not been very good about posting to my blog since last year.  2009 has been a strange year.  I got my first clean bill of health in February 2009, which was the first good one in almost two years.  Not long after that we found out that my husband would be losing his job soon.  His boss planned to keep him as long as he could, and so John worked until the end of May.  We sold our home in early May and moved our stuff back to Tennessee, which is my home state. Kaitlin and I stayed with our oldest daughter, then when John came home at the end of May we found our own place.  We are renting an apartment right now since we are only living on unemployment, but in the summer we hope to move into a house.

I’ve gotten some things made in the last year and I hope to get some of the photo’s posted soon.  It is that time of year again, although this year I don’t have to make as much since we aren’t exchanging gifts at my Mom’s house. We will only be exchanging with our daughter and her beau.

Have a great day & happy crafting!
