These are anklets I am making for my daughter Kaitlin. They are the first pair of knitted socks (or crochet, either) that I’ve ever made. I am using Lion Brand Wool-Ease in #152 Oxford Grey. Kaitlin loves the color and this is the first time I’ve used this yarn. It is absolutely wonderful to work with, it’s very light and soft. It took me a little over a day to make the first sock since this is the first time. I had to rip the heel gusset out about three times before I got through it. It is knit from the top down, with a Kitchener toe (which I didn’t like how it turned out but it is my first time). I got the pattern from this booklet, Learn to Knit Socks by Edie Eckman, which I purchased at JoAnn Fabrics.

It has actually been fun, and the second sock, which I started yesterday and will finish today, will turn out better than the first. I told my daughter I would have to make three socks so that she could have one really nice pair! I think she thought I was joking, but maybe not! I’ll post a photo when they are done. My husband has already requested socks for work. It is very difficult to find socks that fit his small, narrow feet and toothpick legs. He has to wear safety boots so I’m going to try a thicker wool or double up so they will be more sturdy and keep his feet warm. He’s out and about a lot in the cold and wet.

This is a little dress I made, in crochet, for my friend Dixie for her granddaughter. I made the dress from a pattern I found here Ruffled Baby Dress and the pinafore I created myself using the skirt pattern of the dress and making the bodice up. The hat pattern I found here Sugar and Spice Baby Hat and the little bag is the hat pattern with a row of double crochet between the ruffled edge and the body for the ribbon to pass through. I can’t wait to see how they look on the baby, she has red hair and is absolutely adorable.

John & his hat.

I made my husband the Jayne Cobb hat, as requested. I didn’t realize that this is what I made it for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was to keep his ears and head warm, not to hold his headphones in place. Silly me!

Just like a man.

This is the Harry Potter Scarf I made for Kaitlin from Charmed Knits: Projects for Fans of Harry Potter by Alison Hansel. It was easy to do, just counting rows and changing the yarn. The fringe was easy & fun, too. Kaitlin loves it. I finished it last week.

Another fun project I’ve been making is the “Jayne Cobb” hat from the TV series Firefly and the movie Serenity. You can find the pattern here: Jayne Cobb’s Family Hat. I made the first one for my daughter’s boyfriend, Matt, who loves the show/movie as much as I do. His is in the original oranges, Rachel’s is in pink because that’s the only way she said she would wear it. Then, out of the blue, my husband (who doesn’t wear hats) asked me to make him one in the Indianapolis Colts colors of blue/white. I modified the ear flaps to put a horseshoe design on them. He liked it alot.  Kaitlin was nice enough to model Rachel’s & Dad’s, while Matt models his own. Rachel is also wearing a knitted poncho I made her for Christmas.

I’ve been slowly taking photos of my projects and posting them, mostly on Ravelry but I’m adding them here, too. It just takes longer because I have to use Flickr for Ravelry, and for this site I use PhotoBucket. Takes a while to upload photos to two places.I hope to have more soon.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been since June that I last posted. How time flies when you’re not having fun. I started feeling yucky and out of sorts round about then (and of course my birthday is in June!) and just kept getting worse. I stopped working on projects and dropped all of my Yahoo crochet & knit groups. My youngest sister got married in September and we had to go to Tennessee. That was the same month I gave in and went to a new doctor (I hate moving and having to finding new medical professionals for our entire family–yuck!). She ran some blood tests and did an exam and Whammo! everybody wanted me to come visit for tests. Needles, X-rays, sonograms, more doctors, then finally in October four outpatient surgical procedures to get me put back together. It’s been a slow recovery and I’m still not completely well, but I’m getting there. I am happy to say that my need to play with hooks and needles has finally kicked back in and I’ve been making things left and right. Hallelujah!!!I’m going to go get the camera and take some photos of things I’ve been making and get them posted tomorrow. I’m pretty pleased with them, and I’ve got several new projects in the works, too.
