Well, we didn’t get to go to Tennessee after all. My husband’s car, a 1993 Honda Civic with over 400,000 miles, finally died. That is the car we take on trips. I just got the car I have so we haven’t road tested it yet. There is nothing worse than being broken down on the interstate hours from home or help (been there, done that several times).
His little car has been good and faithful since we bought it from a friend’s brother. He bought it new and it was his “baby” until we bought it four years ago. John really loves it. It’s a 5-speed (which I find annoying when I have to drive it), gets great gas mileage (45 MPG on highway!), but sucks on comfort for the long-legged (me) and on long rides (like our 11 hour drive to Michigan last summer) it is like being slowly tortured into a pretzel.
Oh well, life is like that. Right before I graduated from college in 2005 John bought me a 1995 Buick LeSabre. I got to drive it 6 weeks, then an 80 year old hillbilly woman speeding across a parking lot and looking down at something in the seat broadsided us as we were leaving the bank. (No, I don’t have anything against older drivers–I’ll be an 80 yo hillbilly driver someday myself). Luckily she hit the door behind my daughter’s seat instead of farther up. I saw her coming out of the corner of my eye and tried to get out of her way but she was going WAY too fast. So there ended my nice car after six years of driving really old, cheap cars.

I talked to my Mom yesterday and she loves her new Singer sewing machine we picked out. It has some features her old one didn’t have, like a needle threader, automatic bobbin winder, and buttonholer. It also has 16 stitch variations. Since she doesn’t sew like she used to we didn’t get her one that was too fancy. She doesn’t have the patience or the eyesight to do as much as she used to. She used to make clothes, quilts, curtains, you name it. Now she does simple things.

I have some material out to make Rachel’s curtains for her bedroom (white with red hearts) and some oriental fabric to make Kaitlin a pillow slip. I have 4 horses done except for the manes/tales/eyes. I’m going to do that on all seven when they are finished. I’ll be glad to see the last of them! All those stinking little pieces to sew together.

Well, gotta go take the laundry out and put it in the dryer and get ready to take the car to the tire shop to get the tires rotated & balanced. Sigh. I hate doing that but it will be good knitting time. I want to work on Kaitlin’s leg warmers. Right now it is large enough to warm her ankle…..

Happy crafting!
I have been so busy that I didn’t realize that it had been over a month since I last posted. I’ve had projects going left and right. I’ve got photos (still in the camera of course) and will eventually get them up in my PhotoBucket & WebShots albums. I’ve got to make seven crochet miniature horses but I’ve only got one done. They have to be done by June 1st. I’ve got a crochet baby blanket to finish by July 1st, a crochet baby dress to finish by mid-June, a purse I’m knitting for Rachel, a pair of leg warmers to knit for Kaitlin, and some other things I can’t remember at the moment. We also had to clean out our storage and move some of the things to a storage space since the shed was leaking. It’s taken us two days to do that. I’m also taking advantage of a few extra feet in the storage unit and moving some things out of the house to make more room. Living in a mobile home can be quite cramped when you have a lot of craft stuff cluttering the place up!
It’s been really hot here so in order to remind myself how it could be I went into my digital photos. This is our house in February 2007. The snow there in the front was a little over 2 feet deep. It drifted above our skirting and pushed it in. It was so cold I hated to even think about going outside. So I guess it could be worse. At least if I go outside and get hot I can come in and cool off in the air conditioning!
We are going to Tennessee this weekend to surprise my Mom. Her birthday is May 30. For a combined birthday/Mother’s Day gift my two sisters and I went in together and bought her a new sewing machine. My sister Melissa is getting married in September and wants Mom to make some things for her wedding but Mom’s old machine is totally worn out. I tried to use it last fall and Wow! did it have issues with sewing a straight line. She doesn’t know we are coming. We are having a BBQ Saturday evening & spending the night with our oldest daughter. Then on Sunday we are going to Lebanon and spending that night with my sister Sara and leaving for home on Monday morning. Our youngest has elected not to go. It will be the first time we’ve went and she hasn’t been with us. It will be the first time we’ve made the trip by ourselves in a very, very long time.My hubby has come in here and starting getting ready for bed so I’ll stop here for now. Hope to have a few photos up in the new week or so.

Happy crafting!
